# AI email design tools in 2026: the honest comparison nobody wrote

If you search "best AI email design tools" right now, you'll find listicles that read like they were written by someone who spent 20 minutes on each product's pricing page. This isn't that.

I've spent the last few months building an AI email design tool. Before that, I spent years as a marketing manager sending campaigns every week. I know this problem from both sides: the person fighting the editor at 11pm before a launch, and the person trying to build something that actually solves it.

Here's what I found when I tested everything on the market.

## Why AI email design is having a moment

The drag-and-drop editor has been the standard for email design since Mailchimp popularized it in the early 2010s. It works. It's just slow, frustrating, and produces results that look like everyone else's emails.

The promise of AI email design is simple: describe what you need, get a finished design. No dragging blocks. No fighting mobile layouts. No exporting HTML and hoping nothing breaks on the other end.

That promise is real. But not every tool delivers on it equally.

## The tools I tested

### Stripo

Stripo is the most established dedicated email builder on the market: 1.6 million users, 90+ ESP integrations, and a library of 1,600+ templates. It's a drag-and-drop editor with AI features bolted on top, including an AI text generator and a subject line tool.

What it does well: template quality is high, the export to any ESP is reliable, and the modular design system is genuinely useful for teams sending at volume.

Where it falls short: it's still fundamentally a drag-and-drop editor. The AI features are additions, not the core experience. You're still spending 30–45 minutes per email even with AI assistance. And 1.6M users generating only ~$5M ARR tells you that most people use the free plan and move on.

Best for: teams with design resources who want a professional editor with reliable ESP connections.

### Beefree

Beefree has a cleaner UI than Stripo and a stronger SDK offering for developers who want to embed an email editor into their own products. The design quality of their templates is consistently high.

What it does well: the editor is genuinely intuitive, the output HTML is clean, and the collaboration features work well for teams. Their SDK business means they're embedded inside many other tools you might already use.

Where it falls short: same fundamental problem as Stripo. It's a drag-and-drop editor. AI is not the core experience. And like Stripo, the conversion from free to paid is notoriously low, which suggests the free plan is good enough for most use cases.

Best for: teams that want a polished editor and don't mind the manual design process.

### new.email by Resend

This is the newest entrant and the most developer-focused. Built by the Resend team, it generates emails using natural language and is primarily aimed at developers who want to create templates programmatically.

What it does well: clean interface, good output for transactional emails, integrates naturally with the Resend sending infrastructure.

Where it falls short: it's built for developers, not marketers. If you're not comfortable with code, the workflow feels foreign. And it doesn't yet have the brand consistency features that marketing teams need.

Best for: developers building email templates into their products, not marketers running campaigns.

### The ESP native editors (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot)

Every major ESP has its own email editor and increasingly its own AI features. Klaviyo has AI-generated subject lines and some copy suggestions. Mailchimp has a content optimizer. HubSpot has AI writing tools.

What they do well: convenience. Everything is in one place. No export, no import, no switching tools.

Where they fall short: the design quality of native ESP editors is universally mediocre. They're built by teams whose core business is deliverability, segmentation, and automation, not design. The AI features are copy-level, not design-level. You're still manually assembling blocks.

Best for: teams with very basic design needs or no design resources at all who prioritize convenience over quality.

### Bluor

Full transparency: I built this one. But I'll be as honest about its weaknesses as its strengths.

Bluor turns a plain-text prompt into a finished, on-brand email in under 60 seconds.

Bluor generates complete, branded email designs from a plain text prompt. You describe your campaign, the product, the tone, the goal, and it produces a design with proper hierarchy, spacing, and visual structure in under 60 seconds. It connects directly to Klaviyo, Mailchimp, and HubSpot with one click, no HTML export required.

What it does well: the design quality is genuinely higher than most tools in this category. Emails look like a designer spent time on them, not like a template with your colors swapped in. The brand kit applies your logo, colors, and typography automatically across every email.

Where it falls short: it's still early. The free plan has limited credits, and the iteration workflow for small copy tweaks could be smoother. Both things we're actively improving.

Best for: marketers who care about design quality and want a complete flow from prompt to ESP without touching HTML.

## The honest verdict

The AI email design space in 2026 is splitting into two camps.

The first camp is drag-and-drop editors with AI features: Stripo, Beefree, and the ESP native editors. These are mature, reliable, and good enough for most use cases. But they haven't fundamentally changed the workflow. You're still spending 45 minutes per email.

The second camp is prompt-to-design tools: Bluor, new.email, and a few others. These are earlier, less mature, but solving the problem at a fundamentally different level. The question isn't whether the workflow is better — it is. The question is whether the output quality is good enough to trust for real campaigns.

That's the gap that matters. And it's closing fast.

If you're a marketer who sends 2–4 campaigns per month, cares about design quality, and is tired of spending half your afternoon in an editor, the new generation of AI tools is worth trying. The worst case is you spend 10 minutes and go back to what you were doing. The best case is you never open a drag-and-drop editor again.

Bluor is an AI email designer that generates stunning, brand-consistent emails in under 60 seconds and pushes them directly to Klaviyo, Mailchimp, or HubSpot.
