Stripo vs Beefree vs AI: which email builder actually saves you time?

If you've spent any time looking for a dedicated email design tool, you've probably landed on Stripo or Beefree. They're the two most established players in the space, they both have strong reputations, and they both do roughly the same thing.
So which one is better? And is there a third option that neither of their landing pages will tell you about?
I've used both extensively. Here's the honest breakdown.
What Stripo and Beefree actually are
Both tools are dedicated email builders, meaning they exist outside your ESP. You design the email there, then export it to Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, or wherever you send from.
This solves a real problem. The native editors inside ESPs are, with very few exceptions, mediocre. They're built by teams whose core business is deliverability and automation, not design. Stripo and Beefree stepped in to fill that gap, and they've done it well.
Stripo's drag-and-drop editor with content blocks and template preview.
Stripo has been around since 2017. It has 1.6 million users, over 1,600 templates, and integrations with more than 90 ESPs. It's the more feature-rich of the two, with modular design systems, AMP email support, and a collaborative workflow for teams.
Beefree's editor with a cleaner, more modern block-based UI.
Beefree is slightly newer and has a cleaner, more intuitive interface. Its template quality is consistently high, and it has a strong SDK offering for developers who want to embed an email editor into their own products. If you care about the editing experience feeling smooth, Beefree has a slight edge over Stripo.
Where both tools fall short
Here's the thing nobody writes about: both tools are fundamentally drag-and-drop editors. The category they compete in hasn't changed since the early 2010s. You still open a blank canvas, drag blocks around, adjust padding, fight mobile layouts, and export HTML hoping nothing breaks on the other end.
Stripo has added AI features: a text generator and a subject line tool. Beefree has similar additions. But these are copy-level features bolted onto a manual design process. They make the writing part slightly faster. They don't change the core workflow.
The result is that even with AI assistance, a typical email in either tool takes 30 to 45 minutes from brief to export. For teams sending 2 to 4 campaigns per month, that's 2 to 3 hours per month spent in an editor. Not on strategy, not on copy, not on segmentation. On dragging blocks.
There's also a monetization signal worth noting. Stripo has 1.6 million users and generates approximately $5M in annual revenue. That's an ARPU of about $3 per user per year, which means the vast majority of their users never pay. The free plan is good enough for occasional use, which tells you something about how often people actually need a dedicated tool versus just tolerating the native editor.
The third option: AI-generated email design
In the last 12 months, a new category has emerged: tools that generate the entire email design from a text prompt. You describe what you need, the AI produces a finished layout, and you push it to your ESP in one click.
This is a fundamentally different approach. Instead of assembling an email block by block, you describe the outcome you want and the tool figures out the structure, hierarchy, spacing, and visual weight.
The obvious question is whether the output quality is good enough to trust for real campaigns. The honest answer is: it depends on the tool. Most AI email generators produce something functional but generic, layouts that technically work but don't look like anyone with design taste was involved.
The tools that have solved this produce emails that genuinely look like a senior designer spent time on them. Proper hierarchy, considered spacing, brand-consistent colors and typography applied automatically.
The other key differentiator is ESP integration. Many AI email tools still give you HTML and wave goodbye. The better ones push directly to Klaviyo, Mailchimp, or HubSpot with one click. No export, no import, no broken layouts discovered after you've already sent.
The honest comparison
If you're choosing between Stripo and Beefree, the decision is mostly about personal preference and use case. Stripo is better for teams that need a modular system with advanced features and many ESP options. Beefree is better for teams that prioritize a smooth editing experience and don't mind a slightly smaller feature set.
Both are solid tools. Neither has fundamentally changed what email design looks like.
The more interesting question is whether AI-generated design is ready to replace both of them for your workflow. If your main bottleneck is the time it takes to produce a polished email, and you care more about design quality than fine-grained manual control, the answer is increasingly yes.
The catch is that you're trusting the AI to make design decisions that you'd otherwise make yourself. For teams with strong brand guidelines and specific layout requirements, that requires a tool with a reliable brand kit and the ability to iterate quickly on specific changes. For teams that just need a great-looking email and don't want to spend 45 minutes producing it, the tradeoff is obvious.
Which one should you use?
Use Stripo if you send at high volume, have a team that needs collaboration features, and want the most extensive ESP integrations available.
Use Beefree if you're a smaller team or individual who wants a cleaner editing experience and cares about template quality.
Try an AI email generator if you want to stop spending 45 minutes per email and are willing to trust the output quality. The time difference is not marginal. It's 60 seconds versus 45 minutes, for every single campaign.
The drag-and-drop era isn't over yet. But it's ending.
Bluor is an AI email designer that generates stunning, brand-consistent emails in under 60 seconds and pushes them directly to Klaviyo, Mailchimp, or HubSpot.
